What is a heat pump, and is it better than gas?
A heat pump moves heat rather than making it. A ducted reverse cycle system is a heat pump: in winter it draws heat from the outside air and delivers it through ceiling or floor vents, and in summer it runs in reverse to cool. For every unit of electricity it uses, it can deliver several units of heat.
Gas ducted heating heats quickly but only heats, and its running cost depends on gas prices. How do I get the most from ducted heating?
Set the thermostat between 18 and 20°C in winter, since each degree warmer adds to running costs. Close zones for rooms you are not using, keep the return air grille clear, and clean or replace the return air filter as advised at each service.
